Advanced Training

Training Overview

During advanced training sessions I will work with you to improve and build on your driving skills and knowledge, help you to develop observational skills which will enable you to anticipate hazards in good time.  All of which will equip you for long term safe driving and boost driving confidence.

I am a member of the Driving Instructors Association and the Institute of Advanced Motorists and as such am kept up to date with changes within the industry.  I have a commitment to continuous professional development.

Before your training can begin:

Before we begin we will start with an eye sight test, you’ll have to be able to read a number plate from a distance of 26.5m for a new-style number plate or 27.5m for vehicles with an old style number plate.

  • Please remember to bring glasses/contact lenses if you require them for driving.
  • Please remember to bring your driving licence and national insurance number so that we can check your licence details online.

About the Training and Test

The Diamond advanced test lasts 60 minutes and covers a variety of roads and where possible motorways, rural roads and an emergency stop exercise. You will be expected to do at least 2 manoeuvres involving reversing and demonstrate eco-safe driving.

A pass will be awarded if you achieve no serious or dangerous faults and you do not exceed 6 driver faults.

The Diamond advanced test is ideal for professional development particularly for trainee instructors. PDIs looking to take a ‘mock test’ instead of one to their 3 limited attempts during their training means they can gauge how they are doing without going through the DVSA testing system first.
